Precision Machining Equipment & Capabilities
In a world of quickly evolving technologies, it is now more critical than ever to manufacture high-quality precision machining parts for specific applications. At SoFlo Machining we have uniquely positioned ourselves to meet your manufacturing challenges through state-of-the-art equipment and a highly skilled staff of dedicated professionals. Here, we explore the importance of precision machining equipment and manufacturing capabilities.
What Is Precision Machining?
Precision machining utilizes advanced computerized tools to create parts that require high complexity, tight tolerances, or both. One of the main benefits of precision machining is that they have the capability to manufacture complex cuts that have a high degree of accuracy and repeatability. Some of the most common industries that use these parts include aerospace, automobile, defense, electronics, and medical. Another major benefit of precision machining is that the highly complex equipment can work with difficult materials that traditional machining cannot. The SoFlo Machining team prides itself on creating only the highest quality parts for your specific application.
Precision Machining Equipment
Due to the wide array of applications precision machining is used for, several different types of equipment are utilized in the process. Multiple machines are critical as different parts require different types of cutting. The range of equipment we have at SoFlo Machining includes:

Precision Machining Process
At SoFlo Machining, we understand that no two projects are alike. However, almost all designs work through a series of similar steps. They include:
Design The Model
Graphical models are inherent to creating quality parts. Computer Aided Design (CAD) software helps the designer of the project to create 2D and 3D models that will aid in manufacturing. Commonly, these designs still start as hand-drawn sketches to define the parameters of the piece. Our experts will then take those sketches and create a graphical model with accurate dimensions for the project.
Convert CAD To CAM
After the graphical representation is presented in a digital form, the operators convert the manufacturing instructions into a format the machine will understand. This is critical because it allows the machine to translate the digital format to manipulate the coordinates to move the cutting tool or shift the material. Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software takes the model created by CAD and translates it into a format that is easily readable by the machines. CAM uses both G and M codes. Where the G code controls the coordinates of the cutting process, the M code controls its auxiliary functions.
Machining Setup
Once the SoFlo Machining team has the finished set of CAM designs, it is time to set up the machine. Proper calibration and mounting are necessary during this step to ensure a quality product. Based on the material and design of the project, our team will decide which machinery is best for the workpiece. They will also tighten all parts of the machine and calculate the proper parameters.
Execution And Completion
After completing the setup process, the program is ready to be executed, and the precision machining process is ready to begin. After the part is completed, it is time for it to be removed from the machine. At this point, it may be sent for extra processing, like finish (paint, chem film, anodize, heat treat, etc.), grinding, or polishing.
Benefits Of Precision Machining
Utilizing precision machining equipment for your project offers several benefits. They include:
Tight Tolerances
Also known as dimensional accuracy, tolerance is the change in size between the CAD blueprints and the finished product. Our specialized processes and tools reduce the tolerance to very minimal values. Tight tolerances lead to higher part accuracy compared to traditional machining.
Repeatability
The ability to repeat a project is one of the most critical aspects of the manufacturing industry. No matter the size of the order, every part must look exactly the same. Even the slightest difference can impact how the piece performs. At SoFlo Machining, we have the capability to produce identical parts every time.
Quality Control
As an ISO 9001:2015 / AS9100D shop, quality is our number one goal. Our quality manager inspects every job before, during, and after completion to ensure the finished product is within tolerance to match the drawing. We inspect utilizing many different types of tools including calipers, height gauges, go-no go gauges, and our Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). SoFlo Machining is committed to putting out a quality product every time we complete an order.
Speed
At SoFlo Machining, we understand that time is of the essence. High-speed technology and machinery allow us to create parts much faster than traditional techniques. The accuracy and tight tolerances also help to eliminate the need for secondary processing in most cases. Faster production time increases our productivity and efficiency.
